Next-Gen SDK for Android – AdMob

AdMob next-gen Android SDK announcementWe are talking about a new SDK launched by Google AdMob for Android, which has been released already. We will discuss the key advantages, disadvantages, and deadlines in this article.

This newly updated version was built with Kotlin. This version was developed to replace its previous counterpart for good. We have not tested it yet as we are in a migration phase at the moment.

The key headline is that every Android application owner using AdMob must migrate to this new update.

Advantages & Improvements

Understanding AdMob’s Impact on App Revenue

There are several improvements promised by the developers:

  • Speed: The ad requests for banner ads are going to be 27% faster compared to the previous version.

  • Stability: The key update, in our opinion, is the reduction in the “App Not Responding” (ANR) rate, which is down by up to 50%. This is a huge improvement that helps owners improve their apps.

  • Size: The SDK file itself is a bit smaller this time, which helps minimize the overall size of an app and, again, lowers app crashes and “not responding” rates.

Requirements

  • System: The minimum requirement is Android API 24 and a required SDK version of 34 or higher.

  • Setup: A change from the AndroidManifest to programmatic initialization parameters.

Language: Kotlin support is included, but it is still compatible with Java. There is no need for owners working mainly with Java to worry.

Final Thoughts

As we said, we are also in the migration phase for our clients, but this seems like a positive update from Google.

Important Information: Every Android user must migrate, and the deadline for migration is July 2026. We are planning to follow this up with a migration guide shortly.
